A painter named Srinivasan set himself ablaze in Chennai on Sunday, after a police inspector beat him up for failing to pay rent. He was hospitalised with over 80% burn injuries but succumbed to them later. Srinivasan, who lived with his family in Puzhal, couldn't pay rent for four months as he lost his job due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
