'1 in 200 men descended from Genghis Khan' myth challenged by new study
A new study challenged the claim that one in 200 men today is descended from Mongol Empire founder Genghis Khan. Ancient DNA from Golden Horde elites suggested the widespread Y-chromosome belonged to a "specific sub-branch", "not as common as the larger branch", indicating that the Y-chromosome lineage seen today may not be Khan’s direct line.
