The RBI, which announced the withdrawal of ₹2,000 denomination banknotes from circulation on May 19, 2023, has said 98.08% of the ₹2,000 banknotes in circulation have been returned so far. The value of ₹2,000 notes in circulation declined to ₹6,839 crore at the close of business on November 29, 2024. "₹2,000 banknotes continue to be legal tender," RBI added.
