Asteroid that killed dinosaurs may have helped ants dominate Earth: Study
A study published in Science Advances suggests that the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs may have paved way for ants to conquer Earth. The impact 66 million years ago triggered a genetic and ecological chain reaction that helped ants dominate the planet. Their extraordinary evolutionary success was partly driven by mobile DNA segments known as transposable elements, or “jumping genes.”
