'Ballista spiders' use catapult-like trap to capture ants: Study
An analysis published in 'Current Biology' revealed that scientists discovered a new spider, nicknamed ballista spider, in Australia which uses a catapult-like trap to launch ants into its web. The trap launches ants over 30 cm into the spider's web at an acceleration of 1,300 metres per second squared. It specifically eats only the aggressive green tree ant, researchers said.
