'Eye of Sauron' star erupts with an unprecedented space collision
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope spotted enormous rocky bodies smashing together, creating shimmering debris clouds in Fomalhaut's famous ring called Eye of Sauron, just 25 light-years from Earth. The discovery marks the first time astronomers have directly witnessed the debris from such large-scale planetary collisions around another star. These collisions may show how planets are born.
