'Fake nikaah case' in focus as Gujarat seeks to make parental consent must in marriage registrations

Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi moved a proposal to amend marriage registration rules, under which parental consent would become compulsory. Tabling the proposed changes, he cited the 2024 fake nikaah case, under which 4,600 'nikaahnamas' were issued from four talukas in Panchmahal district. A probe revealed that over 300 certificates were issued to couples who didn't even visit Gujarat.
