'Pather Panchali' actress Uma Dasgupta dies due to cancer at 84

Bengali actress Uma Dasgupta, known for playing the role of 'Durga' in Satyajit Ray's 'Pather Panchali', has passed away aged 84. Uma was reportedly battling cancer for several years. "In 'Pather Panchali', she died leaving me alone. In real life too, I've lost my Didi today," said Subir Banerjee, who played her brother 'Apu' in the film.
