Scientists create atlas to map critical rare earth element deposits

Scientists created a new atlas which mapped critical-metal-bearing igneous rocks, rare earth elements' main source, finding they form near thick, ancient continental cores. They said variations in Earth's lithosphere trap molten rock deep underground, concentrating rare earth elements over time. They analysed data from 9,000 CO2-rich igneous samples worldwide to trace rare-earth-rich formations.
