'Slaughter of cow not part of Eid-al-Adha,' says Calcutta HC as it upholds WB govt's restrictions
The Calcutta High Court upheld restrictions imposed by Suvendu Adhikari-led West Bengal government on cattle slaughter ahead of Eid al-Adha. "Sacrifice of a cow is no part of the festival and is not a religious requirement under Islam, as held by Supreme Court," HC said. According to the state order, a 'fit-for-slaughter' certificate would be required for slaughtering animals.
