'Will get 10-year-olds married' says Pak cleric; gets criticised

Senior Pakistani cleric and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman sparked outrage by opposing legislation to ban child marriages and curb domestic violence. Speaking in the National Assembly, he said he would arrange and attend marriages of children as young as 10. He termed the proposed reforms “anti-Islamic” and claimed efforts to end child marriage go against Sharia.
