1.9 lakh cancer cases in India in 2024 linked to infections: Study

Around 1.9 lakh cancer cases in India in 2024 were linked to infections, highlighting the role of infection control in cancer prevention, according to a study. India recorded an estimated 15,62,581 new cancer cases in 2024, with 9,08,828 deaths. Over 1 lakh of the infection-attributable cases were linked to Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer.
