1 in 4 Indian kids have inherited blood disorders: Study

A Metropolis Healthcare study (2021-2024) found that 28.4% of nearly 20,000 Indian children under 12 suspected of inherited blood disorders tested positive. Beta-thalassemia trait and sickle cell were the most common. Over half of the affected were under 3. The report urged early screening and genetic counselling, citing regional variations and highlighting the value of advanced molecular testing.
