10,700 fake firms, over ₹10,000 cr evasion found by GST officers

Tax officials have detected around 10,700 fake registrations under GST, involving evasion of ₹10,179 crore in an ongoing all-India drive launched in August. Authorities blocked input tax credit (ITC) of ₹2,994 crore and recovered ₹28 crore until September 22. In the previous drive, 21,791 firms with GST registration were found to be non-existent.
