Former French footballer and then captain Zinedine Zidane headbutted Italian defender Marco Materazzi while playing in the 2006 World Cup final in Berlin on July 9. Zidane got into a spat with Materazzi during extra time, which eventually led to the headbutt and Zidane being sent off. Italy won the World Cup by winning the match 5-3 on penalties.
