100 critically endangered gharial hatch from 4 nests in Rajasthan
Rajasthan forest officials said 100 critically endangered gharial hatchlings emerged from four nests in the National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary. The Forest Department said gharials laid around 500 to 600 eggs in 22-25 nests in early April and that more hatchlings are expected to emerge. Officials added that fences have been installed to protect the hatchlings and eggs from wild animals.
