100-mn-yr-old insect discovered in Myanmar named after K-pop band
Scientists discovered a 100-million-year-old insect fossil in Myanmar preserved in amber from the Kachin region, showing rare crab-like claws on its front legs. Named Carcinonepa libererrantes, the species name "libererrantes" is a Latinisation of K-pop group Stray Kids due to the resemblance with their trademark hand pose. Researchers added that the claws likely helped it catch prey.
