16 Indian Chief Ministers have died while in office

As many as 16 Indian Chief Ministers have died while still in office, three of whom were from Tamil Nadu, including Jayalalithaa, who passed away late on Monday night. Jayalalithaa's political mentor MG Ramachandran had also passed away while in office in 1987. Arunachal's Dorjee Khandu and Andhra's YS Rajasekhara Reddy had died in helicopter crashes while still in office.
