14 new gut bacteria species discovered in Indian tribal communities
Scientists at BRIC-NCCS, Pune, have identified 14 new bacterial species and nearly 200 local microbial strains while studying the gut microbiomes of India’s tribal communities. The study analysed gut microbiomes from eight tribal communities across India. Trans-Himalayan communities whose diets include milk, wheat, rice, leafy vegetables and fruits showed greater gut bacterial diversity.
