15 million-year-old 'demon bones' fossils found during a field trip in Odisha

Ancient marine fossils, locally known as 'Asura Hadda' (demon bones), dating back 15 million years to the Miocene period, were discovered in Baripada town, Odisha, during a student field visit. The fossil includes shark teeth, shark vertebrae, fish bones, mollusc shells, and microscopic marine organisms. This discovery points to the possibility of a diverse underwater ecosystem many millennia ago.
