15,000-year-old viruses discovered in Tibetan glacier ice: Study

Scientists have found nearly 15,000-years-old viruses in ice samples taken from the Tibetan Plateau in China, according to a study published in the journal Microbiome. Most of these viruses aren't known to humans as they might be active on the glacier surfaces before being frozen thousands of years ago. The findings may help understand how viruses have evolved over centuries.
