16-yr-old Dutch creates a 'trash-eating robot' to clean oceans

Dutch inventor Boyan Slat has developed a "trash-eating robot" system that uses long floating barriers to collect plastic from water bodies. The 16-year-old is clearing the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a marine debris zone, where a conveyor belt pulls plastic into dumpsters for recycling. The approach combines oceanography, engineering and data modelling to tackle marine pollution efficiently.
