18-million-year-old ape fossil found in Egypt

Scientists have discovered fossils of a previously unknown ape species, Masripithecus moghraensis, in northern Egypt. The remains, estimated to be 17-18 million years old, include parts of a jaw and teeth. "Discovering a fossil ape in this region is...somewhat surprising," said Shorouq Al-Ashqar, the study's lead author. He added, "But it also highlights how incomplete our picture has been."
