Addressing the Maharashtra Legislative Council, state Health Minister Deepak Sawant said 19,799 children died in Maharashtra between April 2017 and March 2018. He listed poor weight at birth, premature delivery and deformities as reasons behind the deaths. Women are provided free treatment for 42 days after delivery and children aged under one year are given free medical aid, he added.
