Operation Smile, an initiative of the Union Home Ministry, has rescued 19,000 children who were either missing or were victims of prostitution, bonded labor or ill-treatment by parents. With 5,366 children rescued, Haryana remained on top, followed by Maharashtra (4,350). Among the rescued children, the number of boys was more than that of girls, according to police.
