1st image of Earth from lunar orbit was captured on this day 57 years ago, NASA shares pic

The first image of Earth taken from lunar orbit was captured on this day in 1966 by Lunar Orbiter 1. Sharing a picture from the mission, NASA wrote, "Many of these early photographs have been restored by the Lunar Orbiter Recovery Project at our Silicon Valley center." Lunar Orbiter 1 was the first American spacecraft to orbit the Moon.
