20 die in Sikkim tunnel collapse, efforts on to rescue 5 others

At least 20 workers have been killed while efforts are underway to rescue five others trapped for over 24 hours after an under-construction tunnel collapsed in Sikkim's Namchi district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each to family members of the deceased. The tunnel collapsed due to an explosion after a suspected methane gas leak.
