20-yr-old Indian-origin American player Nishesh wins Grand Slam match for first time

Indian-origin American tennis player Nishesh Basavareddy won a Grand Slam match for the first time, defeating Australia's Christopher O’Connell at the Australian Open 2026 on Tuesday. Ranked 242, Basavareddy won 4-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 in the men's singles first-round match. The 20-year-old, who was born in California to Indian parents, will face Russia's Karen Khachanov in the second round.
