200 workers fired over protests seeking weekly off after 12-hour shifts in Gujarat

Around 200 embroidery workers in Gujarat's Surat were allegedly dismissed after joining a months-long campaign demanding a weekly day off, eight-hour shifts and overtime pay. The dismissals come amid growing unrest among workers who say they routinely put in 12-hour shifts without guaranteed weekly holidays. A worker said, "We were not given a holiday on August 15...Aren't we humans?"
