27 years after 'Great Lego Spill', Lego pieces still washing up at European beaches
Lego toy pieces are still washing up at beaches across Europe 27 years after the 'Great Lego Spill', NYT reported. In 1997, cargo ship Tokio Express was on its way to New York when it was hit by a rogue wave, spilling nearly five million Lego into the sea. The spill included nautically themed pieces like dragons, octopuses, seaweed, etc.
