Drinking 300 ml of coffee daily from a polyethylene plastic cup could expose a person to nearly 3.6 lakh microplastic particles each year, a review of studies has suggested. Researchers found that hot liquids significantly increase microplastic release compared to cold beverages. Estimates suggest that 500 billion single-use plastic cups are used every year globally.
