300-yr-old mummy of a mermaid-like creature to be studied by Japanese scientists

A group of scientists from Japan's Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts will study a nearly 300-year-old mummy that's in the shape of a 'mermaid'. The mysterious 12-inch creature was allegedly caught in the Pacific Ocean between 1736, 1741. Pictures of the creature show it has pointed teeth and its lower half has scales and a tail-like tapered end.
