314 protected monuments remain untraceable in K'taka

A digital mapping survey has found that 314 of Karnataka's 848 officially protected monuments could not be located. The Karnataka Digital Heritage project used 3D laser scanning and digital mapping to document the sites. Experts cited urbanisation, disappearance, neglect and poor historical records as possible reasons, while stressing the need for better documentation and preservation.
