As per the Statistics released by NCRB, a total of 1,35,445 people committed suicide last year in India. With 16,927 suicides Tamil Nadu tops the list, followed by Maharashtra(16,112), West Bengal(14,957) and Andhra Pradesh(14,328). Thirty-seven percent of the victims took the extreme step by hanging themselves, 29.1 percent by consuming poison and 8.4 percent by self-immolation.
