4.1-billion-year-old Mars meteorite found in Sahara
Scientists say Teghaza 001, a meteorite found in Mali's Sahara Desert in 2022, formed at least 4.1 billion years ago in the Martian crust — possibly the oldest Martian rock on Earth. Its chemistry shows liquid water interacted with early Mars, supporting the idea that primordial Mars may have been habitable. Findings are published in Science.
