4 mayors seek protection after colleague beheaded in Mexico

Four mayors in Mexico have sought federal protection after their colleague, Alejandro Arcos, was beheaded last week in the southern state of Guerrero, officials said on Tuesday. Arcos had been sworn into office less than a week when he was assassinated. Notably, gangs and drug cartels in Mexico are known to frequently target mayors to press demands for extortion payments.
