438 of 689 loudspeaker cases in Maharashtra uncharged in 2026

Maharashtra registered 689 loudspeaker violation cases in January–September 2026, nearly triple of 2024's 247 cases, but chargesheets were filed in only 251, leaving 438 pending, as per an NGT affidavit. Police have directed stations to measure noise levels monthly. The cases stem from a petition by Pune audiologist Kalyani Mandke over year-round noise pollution enforcement.
