44-year-old Vedavathi River bridge collapse cuts off 15 villages

A 44-year-old bridge over the Vedavathi river in Karnataka's Konigarahalli has collapsed, cutting off more than 15 villages. The bridge, inaugurated by former Chief Minister R. Gundu Rao in 1982, had reportedly developed cracks over the years. Residents said the structure had deteriorated and posed risks to commuters before it finally collapsed, disrupting daily travel and school transport.
