5,000-yr-old bacteria resistant to antibiotics found in Romanian cave
Scientists have discovered 5,000-year-old bacteria in an ancient underground ice cave in Romania. The microorganism, found within a layer of ice, is resistant to 10 modern antibiotics and belongs to the strain Psychrobacter SC65A.3. “If melting ice releases these microbes, these genes could spread to modern bacteria, adding to...global challenge of antibiotic resistance,” the study’s author said.
