5,503 lung cancer cases, 2,048 deaths reported in K'taka last year

Karnataka recorded 5,503 new lung cancer cases and 2,048 deaths last year, according to Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology Director Dr R Krishnappa. Lung cancer accounts for 6.1% of projected cancer cases in the state for 2025. Bengaluru is projected to record 1,028 lung cancer cases, with 363 deaths. Smoking and tobacco use are major risk factors. Early detection matters.
