5 central tribunals have combined backlog of 3.5 lakh cases
Five central tribunals in the country have a combined backlog of over 3.5 lakh cases, according to a recent report by the Law Commission. The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal had over 91,000 cases pending, the highest among the five tribunals mentioned in the report. Notably, the tribunals were conceptualised to overcome the crisis of backlogs in regular courts.
