5 dead as flesh-eating bacteria infections surge in Louisiana

Louisiana health officials are warning about a deadly surge in Vibrio vulnificus, with nine infections and five deaths reported this year. The flesh-eating bacteria can enter through wounds exposed to seawater or through raw shellfish. People with liver disease, diabetes, cancer or weakened immunity face higher risks of severe infection.
