5 deaths every day: Delhi road accidents hit six-year high in 2026

Delhi recorded 1,309 road accident deaths between January and September, marking 6-year high with daily averages of 5 deaths, 17 injuries and 17 accidents. Pedestrians and two-wheeler riders accounted for 81% of fatalities with 492 pedestrians killed. Vehicles involved included cars 15%, trucks 13%, buses 6% and e-rickshaws 2.5%. Traffic police emphasised urgent need for stricter law enforcement.
