5 lions die in 10 days in Gir, officials say no disease outbreak

Five Asiatic lions, including two cubs, have died over the last 10 days in Gujarat's Gir National Park. Forest officials said that there is no indication of a disease outbreak, while the two cubs are suspected to have died due to an infection linked to Babesia. Gujarat forest minister Arjun Madhwadia said the deaths were part of routine mortality.
