5-time world chess champion Viswanathan Anand takes charge as interim FIDE president
Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand has taken charge as interim president of FIDE. He replaces Arkady Dvorkovich, who voluntarily stepped aside after being included in European Union’s latest sanctions against Russia. Anand, FIDE’s deputy president since 2022, will serve in the role while Dvorkovich remains subject to restrictive measures under EU and Swiss laws.
