51 beached pilot whales die in Australia after mass stranding

A total of 51 pilot whales have died just hours after stranding themselves on a beach in Western Australia, authorities said on Wednesday. "[We] are working in partnership with registered volunteers and other organisations to try to return the remaining 46 whales to deeper water during the course of the day," Western Australia Parks and Wildlife Service said.
