6 die in Louisiana from eating oysters with flesh-eating bacteria

Following consumption of contaminated oysters in Louisiana, two individuals have died from the flesh-eating bacteria Vibrio vulnificus, taking the state's death toll to six. As per Louisiana Department of Health, many people with Vibrio vulnificus infection can become seriously ill and need intensive care or limb amputation. These bacteria thrive in seawater and in the mix of fresh and saltwater.
