Tim Andrews became the first person to live for nine months with a genetically engineered pig kidney before receiving a human transplant. The 66-year-old remained dialysis-free for a record nine months. He then received a kidney from a deceased human donor. It was the first time a pig kidney had been used as a temporary "bridge" to a human transplant.
