70-yr-old 'tunnel man' from K'taka, who turned barren land fertile, awarded Padma Shri
Amai Mahalinga Naik, a 70-year-old labourer from Karnataka, is one of the Padma Shri awardees named by the government on Tuesday. Naik, credited with turning a barren piece of land near Kepu village into a farm, cut through the stones and dug tunnels to source water. He's fondly called 'Surang Man' or 'Tunnel Man' and 'One man army'.
