72,000 trees to be axed for 32-km highway to Vadhavan port

A 32-km highway to connect Varor to Tawa village for quick access to the Vadhavan port will reportedly require cutting about 72,800 trees, filling 21 ponds and 209 wells, and demolishing 611 houses. The project, part of a ₹2,360 crore expressway, pits infrastructure growth against severe environmental and social impact in Palghar's ecologically sensitive coastline.
